The University of Manchester Incubator Company (UMIC) and Building Sustainability Ltd, the specialist energy management technology provider are commencing a 12 month energy reduction drive in the two buildings occupied by the high tech start up companies resident in the Grafton Road laboratories.
The target is to reduce energy by 18% by working with the occupiers and with a program of continuous commissioning on the building plant. A key to the work will be the extensive smart meter data that is available from the buildings radio mesh metering network. The UMIC buildings currently qualify for the Carbon Reduction Commitment scheme and it is a key objective to reduce energy to below the scheme threshold. The benefits will be a highly competitive facility with lower energy overheads
